Video Q&A 5 – An Essay Topic about Social Work plus Thesis Writing Tips

  • How to develop a topic really well
  • How to avoid repeating yourself
  • How to write a thesis statement that is easy for your professor to understand and grade

Here’s Jemma’s question:

“Hi Tutor Phil,

I found your site on you tube and think it is very informative.

I started a social work degree in September. I am currently feeling like a fish out of water as I have not studied academically since school, which was 18 years ago.

We have been set our first 1500 essay which is:

“Critically discuss a significant development in social work, post world war two.”

I have decided to look at the Seebohm Report 1968 as I briefly looked at this while doing an Open University course some time ago.

My thoughts so far with regards to tackling this essay are as follows:

  • Briefly describe the development
  • How & why was it significant at the time?
  • Report flaws – why certain things did not work
  • How does it link with social work practices today?

Do you think I am heading the right direction? Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Jemma”

Enjoy, Jemma 🙂
