In this video I’ll show you how to develop another essay topic in 1 minute.
So, let’s go. Today’s topic is “Should People Set Goals?”
Step 1. We have to decide – yes or no. This is an easy one, so let’s make a decision and say “yes.”
Step 2. Let’s write it out as our thesis – “People should set goals.”
Step 3. Let’s use the Power of Three to divide this topic and come up with three reasons why people should set goals. And let’s do it.
Reason 1 – Goals allow people to decide on what they really want to achieve in their lives.
Reason 2 – Goals enable people to focus on what they want instead of what they don’t want to happen to them.
Good. Now, Reason 3, which is always a little more challenging. I’m thinking, I’m thinking. And here we are:
Reason 3 – Without goals people tend to wander around and get nowhere in their lives.
This took us a bit under one minute, and the topic is now developed because we know exactly what to write. And now let’s write out our complete thesis statement.
“People should set goals, for three reasons. Goals allow people to decide on what they really want in their lives. Goals enable people to focus on what they want instead of what they don’t want to happen to them. Finally, without goals people tend to wander around and get nowhere in their lives.”
And here we have it – our essay topic developed in about 1 minute and a complete thesis statement, which is a nice, juicy paragraph to open your essay.
