How to Build an Essay Topic – Three Essay Topic Samples

Picking and building (developing) an essay topic is the first step in essay writing. And knowing how to do it well will help you :

  • Write the rest of the essay faster
  • Come up with quality material easily
  • Have fun with it instead of suffering from not knowing what to write

If you’ve been following my blog a little, you may know that I love the magic number of THREE. Let’s use this number to help us quickly develop three essay topics.

So, let’s dive in and explore three essay questions/topics right off the bat.

Essay Topic 1

Is it better to work for a large or a small company?

So, quickly:

What are three sections we could divide this topic into?

  1. Hours
  2. Income
  3. Stability

What do I mean by those concepts? Well, look closely:

Working for a larger company is better than working for a small one because it will usually involve fewer hours, better income, and greater job stability.

See that? We have three nice little sections going. Was that quick or what? Let’s do another one:

Essay Topic 2

Is it better to travel alone or with a friend?

Right away:

  1. Fun
  2. Money
  3. Safety

Traveling with a friend is better than traveling alone because it’s more fun, cheaper, and much safer.

Can you do this? Of course, you can!

Essay Topic 3

Which are more valuable in today’s marketplace: the exact sciences or the humanities?

Again, quickly:

  1. Finding a job without experience
  2. Money
  3. Professional growth

The exact sciences are more valuable in today’s marketplace for three reasons. First, it’s easier to find a job without experience in a field that requires the knowledge of the sciences. Secondly, jobs that require math and sciences usually pay more. And finally, jobs that involve the knowledge of science and math allow for faster professional growth.

Keep it simple, and you’ll be okay.
